Istanbul
Where the journey begins
Capital of three empires: the Süleymaniye Mosque, the Bosphorus between two continents and five-century-old bazaars. Almost every circuit starts here.
Istanbul, Cappadocia and Ephesus, Athens and the Greek islands, linked by ferry, flight or cruise. Twenty-three circuits with guaranteed departures.
From the Bosphorus to the Aegean islands: Istanbul and the Turkish coast, Athens and mainland Greece, then the Cyclades, Crete, Rhodes and the Dodecanese. Each circuit picks its own stretch and pace.

Delphi and Meteora
The Sanctuary of Apollo and its oracle on the slopes of Parnassus, and the monasteries of Meteora, perched on pillars of rock.

Mykonos
White houses, the Little Venice quarter, its windmills and beaches, with the sacred island of Delos close by.
Crete and Rhodes

After breakfast we visit the Süleymaniye Mosque on Istanbul's third hill, with one of the most famous views of the city. Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent commissioned it and Sinan, the great imperial architect, built it.
The rest of the day is free to explore on your own, or you can add the optional full-day tour of historic Istanbul: Hagia Sophia (exterior), the masterpiece of Byzantine art; Topkapi Palace, home of the Ottoman sultans for four centuries; a traditional lunch in Sultanahmet; the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome, with the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpent Column, the German Fountain and the Egyptian Obelisk; and in the late afternoon the Grand Bazaar and its 4,000 shops. Overnight.
We cruise the Bosphorus, the strait between Europe and Asia, past sultans' palaces and the traditional wooden mansions on its shores. Then we visit the Spice Bazaar, opened by the Ottomans five centuries ago. The included visit ends here, with time to browse its stalls.
In the afternoon you can add the optional visit to the Asian side, with lunch: Beylerbeyi Palace, the sultans' summer residence; the Bosphorus suspension bridge linking the two continents; the Üsküdar district and Çamlıca Hill, Istanbul's highest point (268 m), with views over both sides of the city. Optional: a jeep safari through Cappadocia's valleys and rock formations.
A full day in a landscape like no other, shaped by lava from the Erciyes and Hasan volcanoes three million years ago. We visit the Göreme valley, a Byzantine monastic complex of rock-cut churches with beautiful frescoes, and the Avcılar and Güvercinlik valleys, with the best views of the "fairy chimneys".
We also stop at traditional carpet and onyx and turquoise workshops. Dinner and overnight.
An early start for Pamukkale. We visit Hierapolis, an ancient Hellenistic city now in ruins, and the famous "Cotton Castle": white cascades, stalactites and natural pools formed over centuries by calcium-rich thermal springs. Dinner and overnight.

We also visit the House of the Virgin Mary, where she spent the last years of her life, and a lambskin leather gallery, a local tradition.
In the late afternoon we continue to Kuşadası or Izmir. Dinner and overnight.
From May to October the hotel may be in or near Izmir instead of Kuşadası.
